Pulsating and nonpulsating stars in Hyades observed by Hipparcos satellite

چکیده
A study of the stars in the instability strip of Hyades cluster has been performed taking into account the new estimate of the stellar parallaxes. For taking advantage of the improved accuracy of the distances and hence absolute magnitudes it is necessary to separate the photometric effects of close companions, which appear quite common in Hyades. The δ Scuti stars, differently from nonpulsating stars, appear to be located also above the main sequence, and this is due probably to their large rotational velocity. The comparison of the rotational effects on the star position in the color–magnitudediagramwith theoretical model predictions tends to confirm the importance of differential rotation. A brief discussion of θ2 Tau and some remarks on the X–ray emission of other two δ Scuti stars are also reported.

Stellar models and Hyades : the Hipparcos test
We compare theoretical stellar models for Main Sequence (MS) stars with the Hipparcos database for the Hyades cluster to give a warning against the uncritical use of available theoretical scenarios and to show how formal MS fittings can be fortuitous if not fictitious. Moreover, we find that none of the current theoretical scenarios appears able to account for an observed mismatch between theor...
متن کاملUsing a Hipparcos-derived Hertzsprung-russell Diagram to Limit the Metallicity Scatter of Stars in the Hyades: Are Stars Polluted?
Hipparcos parallaxes and proper motions have made it possible to construct Hertzsprung-Russell (H-R) diagrams of nearby clusters with unprecedented accuracy. The standard deviation of high-fidelity, nonbinary, nonvariable stars about a model stellar evolution isochrone in the Hyades cluster is about 0.04 mag. We use this deviation to estimate an upper limit on the scatter in metallicities in st...
متن کاملThe Problem of Hipparcos Distances to Open Clusters: I. Constraints from Multicolor Main Sequence Fitting
Parallax data from the Hipparcos mission allow the direct distance to open clusters to be compared with the distance inferred from main sequence (MS) fitting. There are surprising differences between the two distance measurements, which indicate either the need for changes in the cluster compositions or reddening, underlying problems with the technique of main sequence fitting, or systematic er...
متن کاملStudy of an unbiased sample of B stars observed with Hipparcos: the discovery of a large amount of new slowly pulsating B stars
We present a classification of 267 new variable Btype stars discovered by Hipparcos. We have used two different classification schemes and they both result in only a few new β Cephei stars, a huge number of new slowly pulsating B stars, quite some supergiants with αCyg-type variations and variable CP stars, and further some new periodic Be stars and eclipsing binaries. Our results clearly point...
